On Thursday 9th June, a group of Allanians which included former pupils and staff, joined together for a tour of our local Anglican church, St James' and St Basil’s.
Dame Allan’s has a long shared history with J's and B's and the Anglican ethos on which the Schools were founded carries through to this day. The Senior School’s Chamber Choir regularly leads Choral Evensong at St James’ and St Basil's and the Reverend James McGowan is the Schools' Chaplain.
Rev. James McGowan showed the group around with a very informative talk on the church’s interesting architecture and poignant history, as well as its evolving role within the local community.
Afterwards, the guests enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea outside in J's and B's gardens. Thank you to everyone who came along, and to our hosts at J's and B's, for a wonderful afternoon. We were delighted to receive the following feedabck from one of our attendees:
"I must tell you how much I enjoyed the Allanian meeting, yesterday. It was an inspired idea and I found all that the Vicar told us about the Church most interesting. Having time to chat, afterwards, over a delicious tea was literally the icing on the cake!"
We would encourage everyone who may be hesitant in joining events to get in touch and come along - you will be very welcome.
Photos from the day can be found in our photo gallery.
