Before I came here, I was planning on attending my local state school. My Mum was a bit worried about that, as the class sizes were so big. One of things that I have really enjoyed at Dame Allan’s is the smaller class sizes, which have helped me to build great connections with my teachers.
Outside of the classroom, I’ve really enjoyed being part of drama clubs and productions. They have such an inclusive atmosphere, and have been a lot of fun.
I’m currently studying Biology, Chemistry and Spanish at A Level, and planning on studying Medicine at the University of Exeter. I’ve always been interested in science, but I knew I wanted a people-facing role rather than one in a lab.
Dame Allan’s has been so helpful and flexible when it comes to my ambition to study medicine, in particular Mrs Whitehouse, Head of Careers. I knew I needed to get work experience as part of my university application, so I found a suitable placement at St Oswald’s Hospice, but the only time that I could volunteer was a Wednesday afternoon. The school was brilliant in amending my timetable to make sure I could attend my work experience, for which I am very grateful.
Without my bursary place at Dame Allan’s, I think achieving my dream of studying medicine would have been a lot harder to reach.
Meerab celebrated 3A*s at A level on Results Day and has gone on to study Medicine at the University of Exeter.
