In Memoriam |
Born on 1st September 1956, Andrea was an ex- DAGS student and died peacefully at her home in Durham on 21st June 2024.
Having achieved a B.A.Hons and M.A (Education) – Social Policy from Durham University, Andrea had a long and distinguished career in the NGO sector, receiving her OBE in 1990. Working within the Energy, Water and Regulatory sectors, Andrea remained Chair of Yorkshire Forum for water customers at the time of her death. She was also the Independent Complaints reviewer at HM Land Registry.
Andrea was a passionate and well respected advocate for those on low income, vulnerability and also for the environment. Throughout her long and distinguished career she was Chair of Water Voice, Northumbria and vice –chair of the Ethics and Governance Committee of the UK Bio bank project. She was a member of the UK Round Table on Sustainable development, the Government Renewable Energy advisory committee and the advisory group to the New Deal task force. Andrea was also the founder chair for the Jersey Energy Trust and without doubt her knowledge and skill set were huge. She was also previously a Parole Board member.
Passionate about her beloved Newcastle United, Andrea greatly treasured her DAGS education and was still in regular contact with many school friends. She will be greatly missed by her partner Peter Tomlin, her older sister Karen (also an ex- DAGS student ), friends and colleagues. RIP.
